When sleepwalking the Yuli vaguely remembers what she does and sees, a kind of images from the real world with a layer of oddly stuff going on it. The images look very similar to the works in the show.

Akira likes to imagine a topological shape when is thinking in human bodies. The inside and outside of our bodies are connected without boundaries and every element that constructs our environment, circulates in and out regardless of our will.

This title could metaphorically represent diverse subjects.

“I forgot to wake up” hit me quite hard. how would you forget? I connect it with the situation happening right now in my life.

Trevor draws inspiration from intimate and personal experiences, culminating in works that range from image-based to large-scale installations. Obsessed with structures and systems, he creates different scales of systems which allow him to exert control upon living beings, including plants, animals, as well as spectators. Yeung uses ecology, horticulture, photography and installations as metaphors that reference the emancipation of everyday aspirations towards human relationships.

Akira creates works in relation to the balance between the forces we think of as outside or before ourselves, and the “civilising” of ourselves. In Ikezoe’s works, the human figure is presented as his alter ego and woven into a metaphysical and mythological context that depicts a timeless melting point between human and natural boundaries.

Yuli essentially works with sewing and pieces of ordinary fabrics found in popular stores to build a very peculiar visual universe. She is specially interested in the mixture of images and references, ranging from classic design to the vibrant colors of lycra clothes of cross-fit practitioners.

The title of the show comes from the exchange of words between Spanish and Portuguese. When you try to translate the phrase, you encounter a loop or an open circuit of meanings.

Bios

Akira Ikezoe (b. 1979) is a New York-based artist born in Kochi, Japan. After majoring in printmaking and graduating from Tama Art University in 2003, Ikezoe received the Tomio Koyama Gallery Prize and Naruyama Gallery Prize at GEISAI #10 in 2006, the 1800 Tequila Award at ZONA MACO in 2015 and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2016. Currently, Ikezoe is a member of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts’ Studio Program. His solo exhibitions include A veces hay que bajar para poder subir, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2019); Coconut Heads, Brennan and Griffin, NYC (2018); el fin del este coincide con el fin del sur, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2015); Drawing, Ise Cultural Foundation, NYC (2012); Repeater, Sanagi Fine Arts, Tokyo (2010) and Ephemeral Garden, Esso Gallery, NYC (2009). Yuli Yamagata (b. 1989) holds a BFA from USP (São Paulo), major in sculpture. Among her main exhibitions are "Microwave Your Friends" (In-Vitro, Cluj - Romania, 2019), "RolyPoly" (Pivô Arte & Pesquisa -São Paulo, 2018), "Tropical Extravaganza: Paola & Paulina" (SESC Niterói - Rio de Janeiro, 2017) or "Mention of honor" (CCCJ - Rio de Janeiro, 2017).In 2018, she participated in the "Proyecto Visible" (Miami - USA), a project based on Latin American artists curated by Jesús Fuenmayor, and in the art residency "Despacio" (San José-CR), Also in 2018, she participated in the direction of art and costumes for the theather piece "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Satyros Teather (São Paulo- BRA). In 2019, she did a second show of exhibition "RolyPoly" at the Kunsthalle Lissabon (Lisbon - PT), and the Pivô Art and Research residence, curated by Fernanda Brenner.

Trevor Yeung (b. 1988, China) graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2010. Yeung has participated in biennials and exhibitions including the 15th Biennale de Lyon, France, 2019; 'An Opera for Animals', Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai, China, 2019; 'After Nature', UCCA Dune, Beidaihe, China, 2018-2019; 'Cruising Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Biennale', Venice, Italy, 2018; the 38th EVA International Biennale, Limerick, Ireland, 2018; and the 4th Dhaka Art Summit, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2018.

Cuando esta sonámbula, Yuli recuerda vagamente lo que hace y ve, una especie de imágenes del mundo real con una capa de cosas raras. Estas imágenes se ven muy similares a las obras de la exposición.

Akira se imagina una forma topológica cuando piensa en cuerpos humanos. El interior y el exterior de nuestros cuerpos están conectados sin límites y cada elemento que construye nuestro entorno, circula dentro y fuera, independientemente de nuestra voluntad.

Este título podría representar metafóricamente diversos temas.

"Olvidé despertar" me golpea bastante fuerte. Como lo olvidaría? Lo conecto con la situación que está ocurriendo en mi vida.

Trevor se inspira en experiencias íntimas y personales, que culminan en obras que van desde instalaciones, a obras basadas en imágenes. Obsesionado con las estructuras y los sistemas, crea diferentes escalas de estos, que le permiten ejercer control sobre los seres vivos, incluídas las plantas, los animales y los espectadores. Trevor utiliza la ecología, la horticultura, la fotografía y las instalaciones como metáforas que hacen referencia a la emancipación de las aspiraciones cotidianas hacia las relaciones humanas.

Las obras de Akira tienen una relación con el equilibrio entre las fuerzas que consideramos externas o anteriores a nosotros mismos y el “ser civilizados”. En las obras de Akira, la figura humana se presenta como su alter ego y se entrelaza en un contexto metafísico y mitológico que representa un punto de fusión intemporal entre los límites humanos y naturales.

Yuli trabaja esencialmente con costura y piezas de telas comunes, que se encuentran en tiendas populares, para construir un universo visual muy peculiar. Está especialmente interesada en la mezcla de imágenes y referencias, que van desde el diseño clásico hasta los colores vibrantes de la ropa de lycra de los practicantes de cross-fit.

El título de la exhibición proviene del intercambio de palabras entre español y portugués. Cuando intentas traducir la frase, encuentras una rotonda o un circuito abierto de significados.
