INNER WORKINGS
a series of drawings by Jonathan Harker

These drawings trace a thoughtful journey through the bowels of some complex imaginary systems. They are entanglements, fantastic structural destructurings, which unfold into their own mutant interiorities. The villainous frameworks stun and disorient: insurrectionary devices, ambiguous and absurd devices, sinuous and insinuating objects. The gaze becomes tired and lost in so many blind recesses, overwhelmed by tangles of mechanical guts, which form and deform between tangential configurations of numbers, letters, glyphs, bones, tubes, eyes...

The loose idea: the inner workings of the human mind – that hornet's nest of memories, electro-neuronal impulses and bio-chemical flows; that whirlpool of images, words, sensations, emotions and dreams – they form a super dense mess, a roll so vast and so intense, that it becomes impossible to distinguish what is what, because everything ends up being everything, which is the same thing that someone does that does not drown in the sea: nothing.

I don't know if I explain myself. Orienting yourself in these labyrinths is like trying to separate the memory of a smell from the emotion that produces that memory from the image that produces that sensation from the serotonin that triggers that image from the words that form that symbol that randomly encodes that glyph that It is barely glimpsed among the flickering flashes of an infinity of unique and ephemeral electrical brain impulses. Inhale. Exhale. Let's go again. Inner Workings: a fluctuating endlessness of Gordian knots intertwined in networks of sublimely intricate loops, whose moving components are polyvalent, inseparable, interdependent and, above all, cryptic. In two words: tremendous mess.

INNER WORKINGS

No sé si me explico.
